CLASSES: ​

​We offer project based art classes and farm experience classes for kids, groups and for the whole family.  See descriptions below for classes.   To register or for more info, fill out form on bottom of page.

Farm Experience Classes:

These classes are for families and groups (4H, Heritage Girls, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, school groups, homeschool groups, etc.):

GOAT MILKING AND ICE CREAM MAKING:
Venture out to the country, soak in the beautiful setting, milk a Nigerian Dwarf dairy goat, collect eggs from the coop, make your favorite goat's milk ice cream in our ice cream churns, and bring a quart home.  It's delicious...and fun!  Strawberry, vanilla, chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip flavored ice cream available.  All natural ingredients.

​Goat's milk is always pasteurized. Pasteurization of the milk is apart of the class experience.


Classes offered:
- Friday, September 27th - 10am - 12noon -  FULL
- Friday, October 18th - 10am-12noon - FULL

 Cost: $15 per person. 3 and under free. $10 per person for larger families and groups (10 plus).   Contact nikki@schaeferfamilyfarms.net for more information.

ELDERBERRY JAM MAKING CLASS:

Pick elderberries from our lush elderberry bushes, make elderberry jam and take a jar home.  Elderberries are not only delicious but great for boosting the immune system.  
Enjoy chickens and goats while you are here.

-Class offered:  August 30th. 10-12noon.  CLASS FULL.
-Class will be offered again during elderberry season next year - August 2020.  


Cost: $15 per person.  Kids 3 and under are free.

Project-based art classes:

​ANIMAL ART:
 Kids will make their favorite animals out of clay and visit with our real animals (goats and chickens). 

Ages: 6 -12
Cost: $20 plus $5 supply fee - $25

Kids will spend approximately 1 hour making their clay sculptures, 45 minutes visiting our animals, and 45 minutes painting their sculpture. 

Kids will have the opportunity to pet and feed dairy goats and hold baby chicks.

KILN CREATIONS:
This class takes the claymaking process one step further as clay creations will be fired in a kiln, glazed, and refired to make a beautiful clay creation.

This is a 3 step class (kids must sign up for all 3 classes).
10 person minimum. Ages 9 plus.

1. Create your kiln creation.
Clay will then air dry and be fired in the kiln.
2. Glaze your kiln creation. 
3. Pick up kiln creation and have a farm experience. Visit with our animals - pet and feed dairy goats, observe our goat milking process, and hold baby chicks.

Cost: $45 ($10 per class plus $15 supply fee).
Teachers: Katy Adams (ceramic artist, quilter, professional seamstress, and former teacher of 35 years) and Nikki Schaefer (art therapist, artist, homeschool mom and teacher). Bios listed below registration form.

Teacher Bios:

Katy Adams - Katy Adams was a school teacher for 35 years.  She is also a ceramic artist, quilter, and professional seamstress.  Katy sees art making and crafting as great ways for children to become aware of their creative side. Making art as a group helps them to develop friendships and gives them a great sense of accomplishment.  She is excited to work with your children. Katy has 2 sons, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Nikki Schaefer - Nikki Schaefer was a counselor and art therapist for 10 years.  She has written and illustrated the children's book, The Potty Train, written articles in various homeschooling publications, taught homeschool art classes, and has always seen art as an important part of life.  Art making keeps us in touch with our souls, our hearts and how they connect to the world.  It helps children better understand themselves and gives them a feeling of joy and accomplishment.  Nikki has six children, ages 19-4,  and homeschools four of them.
